The Magyar Millennium Park Trust, a Hungarian community trust in Wellington, are organising three days of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The Trust invites PHANZA members to join at Penthouse Cinema in Brooklyn on Thursday 22 October for an evening exploring the stories and legacy of 1956 through conversation and cinema.
At 6.45pm, a panel, Perspectives on a Revolution, brings together Hon Chris Finlayson, Alan Duff, and two community members, Zoya Kőszegi and István Tóth, moderated by Zsófia Hellyer, to reflect on freedom, resistance, displacement and starting again.
At 7.30pm, those themes will come to life on screen in Children of Glory (Szabadság, szerelem), a 2006 film set against the events of the Hungarian Revolution and the Melbourne Olympics (Hungarian with English subtitles). The panel discussion and film are both free.
There will be Hungarian nibbles and wine at 6.00pm for $20 per person – however there are very limited spots left for this part of the evening as capacity is limited by the physical space.
You’re welcome to come for the whole evening or whichever parts appeal to you. Registration is essential as seats are limited – please register through Humanitix, selecting a ticket for each part you’d like to attend.
