Based in Auckland, my research has covered Māori entrepreneurship and commercial enterprise in the nineteenth century, so-called ‘slavery’ in Māori society, and aspects of Māori-Pākehā relations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. I have recently researched immigration into New Zealand since 1840 and the social history of Auckland. I have also been involved in the tourism industry including presenting lectures to tour groups. I am currently researching the transition from custom law (tikanga) to British law in Māori communities.
