Anne Else
I’m an independent historian and editor based in Wellington. Over forty years my historical research and writing (including work commissioned by Manatū Taonga Ministry of Culture and Heritage History Group and its predecessors) has centred on a wide range of topics in women’s history, such as literature, unpaid work, poverty, neoliberalism, women’s organisations, adoption and assisted reproductive technology. The most recent publication, written with Maria Haenga-Collins and published online by Bridget Williams Books on 1 March 2023, is a digital edition of my 1991 history of post-war adoption, combined with seven new chapters covering adoption, state care, donor conception and surrogacy, 1975-2022, available by looking up Anne Else in Amazon (Kindle Store) Google Play, or Kobo. I also work on request as an adviser and editor for historical work, including memoir.
