Elizabeth Bowyer, The Contractual Engagements of Colonial Women: The Case of Elizabeth Ellen Hadfield
Branka Bogdan and Tatjana Buklijas, The Fetus and the Lamb: The Auckland Antenatal Corticosteroid Trial and its Legacies
Elizabeth Bowyer is a PhD student at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Her research focuses on women’s socio-legal histories within settler societies.
Branka Bogdan is a Senior Research Fellow at the Liggins Institute at the University of Auckland where she is researching and co-authoring a book on the sciences of early human development and how and why they came to flourish in New Zealand, and Auckland in particular, during the second half of the twentieth century. Her doctoral research, which was awarded at Monash University in March 2020 and nominated for the Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal at Monash University, analysed reproduction, contraception, and abortion in socialist Yugoslavia, 1945-1990.
Tatjana Buklijas is a historian of science and medicine with longstanding interests in the sciences of human form and development, from anatomy and embryology to evolutionary medicine and epigenetics. She is currently working on a book on the history of epigenetics and editing a volume on concepts of the environment in biology and medicine. Tatjana is Associate Director Academic of Koi Tū the Centre for Informed Futures at University of Auckland and Senior Lecturer in Global Studies.
This is a regular, online seminar. Each session (held via zoom) features 2 research presentations on current research in Aotearoa New Zealand Gender History, followed by discussion.
