Manatū Taonga, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage is currently advertising a fixed-term position. Applications close at 5 p.m. on Sunday 24 March 2019.
The Ministry is working with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to produce a major print history of MFAT and its predecessor departments, and the development of New Zealand’s diplomatic service. This project was announced in 2018 to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of New Zealand’s first dedicated foreign relations agency, the External Affairs Department, in 1943.
The Commissioning Editor will lead the project, working with the support of the project’s Governance Group to scope the history and its component chapters; identify, commission and manage the work of a number of chapter authors (who will be contracted separately to write chapters); write a major introduction to the history, and at least one chapter; identify and select suitable illustrations; and ensure the work’s historical content is completed to a high professional standard.
