Tauranga Library Relocation

Tauranga City Council has plans underway to redevelop the civic precinct in the centre of Tauranga. This is all part of the wider strategy to transform and revitalise the city centre into a place that our community is proud of, and that people want to visit.

To make way for the new civic precinct, (including a new library), Tauranga Library is relocating from its current site at Willow Street to a new, interim site – He Puna Manawa (formerly the Goddard’s Centre) — located between Grey Street and Devonport Road.

To allow for the relocation, the library will be closed from 4pm on Sunday 6 March, and will re-open at He Puna Manawa on Monday 4 April.

The Heritage and Research team have an even trickier job of relocating the precious items from Ngā Wāhi Rangahau at Tauranga Library, so that room is now closed. Customer access to the physical archives is expected to be available at an offsite location by appointment from early April.
