Rutherford House
Room RH102
Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington
33 Bunny Street, Pipitea, Wellington 6011 or Zoom.

Afterwards, please join us for the annual PHANZA AGM lecture delivered by Dr Emma-Jean Kelly! ‘Stroppy Feminists: Lessons of an Oral Historian in Interesting Times’.

Dr Emma-Jean Kelly was until recently Senior Audio Visual Historian for Manatū Taonga, Ministry for Culture and Heritage. She started her time in that role during Covid-19 Lockdown, which resulted in experiments in oral history with Teresa Cowie, Anaru Dalziel and Sue Berman, resulting in the podcast production with community oral historians Kei Roto I Te Miru: Inside the Bubble (2021). Many projects later, Te Rauparaha: Kei Wareware (2023) made with Ross Calman, Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira and Kirsten Johnstone of Popsock Media won Best Education Podcast at New York Festival Radio Awards.

Royal Commission Inquiry on Abuse in Care, Irish Catholics in the asylum system, Dictionary of New Zealand Biography entries on Pauline Thompson, Witarina Harris and Jonathan Dennis, and pay equity union work have made for a jam packed few years. Emma-Jean will share some lessons from her experiences, and ask some questions about the role of Public History yesterday, today and tomorrow for stroppy feminists and those who support them.

Drinks at the Thistle Inn will follow. We hope to see our members there!
