I am Ngati Toa Rangatira, B.Sc., Dip.Tchg., Dip.Bib.Min, B.A.(hons), PhD. I began my teaching career as a Maths and Economics teacher at Christ’s College before going into a career in sales management, leaving that to become a Salvation Army officer 1998-2002.
>I then spent seven years teaching at Aranui High School, then studied at the University of Canterbury for five years, applying interests in Archaeology, History and Cultural Studies to a PhD focused on the Central Otago gold-rush.
From January, 2014, I was employed to teach Maori Studies at Lincoln University. I continue to research and write about goldfields history, New Zealand Land Wars history and cultural histories of colonial New Zealand.
In July - December 2016, I will be a Visiting Scholar, Faculty of History, University of Cambridge. I will also be a Visiting College Research Associate at Wolfson College, Cambridge.
