We are very pleased to announce the publication of Sarah Johnston’s article ‘With the Boys Overseas: How Homefront Listeners Shaped the Work of Aotearoa New Zealand’s First Battlefront Broadcasters’ in the 2023 issue of the New Zealand Journal of Public History.
Sarah Johnston (Ngāti Rakaipaaka, Ngāti Kahungunu, Pākehā) is an independent sound history
researcher, investigating New Zealand radio during World War Two. A former radio journalist and
sound archivist, Sarah’s project received initial funding in 2021 from the Judith Binney Trust and
Manatū Taonga. She is currently listening to the archive of surviving World War Two radio
recordings held at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision and writing about what she hears at
