From 3 April 2023 there will be building works at the National Library. The Library will be open during construction but there will be some changes to the services while the work is underway.
Construction has started on a two-level link bridge, that will connect the new Archives building to the National Library building in Wellington. This is part of the Heke Puna Library project.
Testing has shown that the Library can continue to operate during the construction. Hoardings will be erected to help manage noise and keep you safe when you visit the Library. Because of this, there will be some changes to National Library services, floor layouts and venue spaces.
The Katherine Mansfield Reading Room will be more protected from the noise of construction and better for quiet reading than the General Reading Room. Based on this, all collection items will now be delivered to the Katherine Mansfield Reading Room and issued there for reading.
Collection delivery times and turnaround times for some items will change. Before you visit please check the National Library website for more details and the latest information.
Building work runs from 3 April 2023 until September 2024.
