Lilburn Residence Trust Concert and Auction  26 September

Hunter Council Chamber, Victoria University Friday 26 Sept, 5.30 pm (concert 6 pm)

See the other side of this canvas at the charity auction for the Lilburn House.

In addition to Gregory O’Brien’s painting, there are works by Anne Noble, John Drawbridge, Joanna Paul, Janet Paul, Michael Nicholson, Doreen Blumhardt, Shane Cotton, Dick Frizzell, Layla Walter, Mirek Smíšek and Brendan O’Brien. Plus rare editions of poetry from Wai-te-ata Press and the Caxton press, a hand-signed copy of a Stockhausen score, and many musical items.

Walk up the grand Hunter Building stairs while listening to Douglas Lilburn’s Staircase Music (an
electroacoustic composition with a great backstory!). Be greeted with a glass of bubbles and canapes in the Hunter Common Room. Move into the Hunter Council Chamber for a concert that includes world premieres by Douglas Lilburn (yes!), Penelope Axtens (current Lilburn House Composer-in-Residence) and Ross Harris. Plus works by past composers-in-residence Salina Fisher, Chris Gendall, Briar Prastiti, and Elliot Vaughan.

Performers include pianist Luu Hong Quang (piano), Keeson Perkins-Treacher (flute) Briar Prastiti, Elliot Vaughan, Nicholas Denton Protsak, and The New Zealand School of Music String Ensemble.
