Job Vacancy – Senior Archivist, Special Projects Lead at Alexander Turnbull Library

The Alexander Turnbull Library has a new role to lead the processing team for three major collections (including digitisation at scale for one), and also to line manage the Librarians as part of the A&D team. Together these present a unique opportunity to be part of coherent planning, integrated processes, and professional development. The Senior Archivist, Special Projects Lead is a fixed-term role to lead, coordinate and project manage activities relating to large acquisitions that have come into the Alexander Turnbull Library, with the aim of their timely preparation for access by researchers. These activities include the arrangement and description of archival collections, including the creation of finding aids for their discovery and use, the storage and preservation of physical and/or digital material, and digitisation of collections by in-house or third-party vendor. This position will lead collaboration across the Turnbull Library teams to ensure acquisitions are processed in the agreed timeframes and to the standards required with full understanding of the total resources required across the Library.

Two of the collections have Māori content, which will present significant opportunities for discussion and decision-making.
