David Verran

Auckland

I volunteer at both Devonport and Birkenhead Museums, as well as Auckland Council Archives. I also conduct regular tours of Symonds Street Cemeteries and give public talks on aspects of North Shore history.

I graduated with MA Hons in history from the University of Auckland in 1974 and also hold a Diploma from the New Zealand Library School. I worked as a librarian from 1975 to 2017.

In 2010 Random House published my ‘The North Shore; an illustrated history’ and have written a number of article and book reviews over the years. I have also written ‘Auckland City Libraries; another chapter’ (2011) and have just finished ‘A century of brass; the North Shore Brass story’ (2023). References to the articles and some book reviews are available from Index New Zealand – https://natlib.govt.nz/collections/a-z/index-new-zealand-innz

Also, since 2011 I have written a monthly local history column for ‘Channel’ magazine on the North Shore.
