Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi offers the highest standards of tertiary education from certificate to doctorate levels, including programmes for international scholars of indigenous studies. Our vision is to promote, grow and sustain Māori language, knowledge and culture, according to tikanga Māori practice.

This is an exciting time to be part of Māori and indigenous scholarship, and our success relies on the excellence of our people and our connection to the communities that we serve. We offer a stimulating teaching, research and professional working environment in one of our three campuses: our main campus in Whakatāne, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) and Wairoa.

We require an Historian skilled in researching, analysing, interpreting, and documenting historical events, narratives, and cultural knowledge. The Historian will play a vital role in safeguarding whakapapa, waiata, whakataukī, and mātauranga Māori, ensuring these are accurately contextualised and accessible to future generations.  Master’s in History, Māori Studies, or a related field (a PhD is desirable.)
