Heritage New Zealand | Pouhere Taonga is hosting the Highwic Winter Lecture Series in Auckland this August. Speakers include:
Julia Gatley – Modern Heritage: A Thing since the 1980s
Dr David Bade – Ceramic House, New Lynn and Auckland Unitary Plan Scheduling
Alexandra Foster – Modern History and the New Zealand Heritage List / Rārangi Kōrero
Every heritage place was once new, constructed to house families, businesses, congregations, and the countless other activities that shape community life. As time passes and histories are written, these places have become part of the cultural heritage of Aotearoa. But at what moment does this invisible transformation occur? And who decides that it has?
This year’s winter lecture series runs over the first three Saturday in August and will explore the chronology and identification of heritage – and the contemporary designation of modern and post-modern sites as built heritage featuring talks by representatives from DOCOMOMO New Zealand, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, and the Auckland Council Heritage Unit.
Cost: Free for HNZPT Supporters, Adults $15, Children 17 & under free (booking essential via Eventbrite)
