Alexander McKay (1841-1917) was one of New Zealand’s most celebrated pioneer geologists as well as being an innovative scientific photographers.
Simon Nathan is researching his photographic career, but is handicapped by the relatively small number of images that have survived apart from those published during his lifetime and a small collection of prints at GNS Science. The Alexander Turnbull Library also holds six images copied from an album loaned by Mrs A.H.Parker of Hukanui in 1963.
Do any PHANZA members have suggestions where any prints or half-plate glass negatives taken by Alexander McKay are held?
