New Historians Postgraduate Conference 2024

New Historians is an annual conference hosted by postgraduate students in the History Programme at Victoria University of Wellington – Te Herenga Waka.

Papers are invited relating to all areas of historical inquiry, from all disciplines including but not limited to History, Political Science, International Relations, Education, Art History, Theatre, Film and Media Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Literature, Māori and Pacific Studies, Museum and Heritage Studies.

This year’s theme is “Who’s Afraid of History?”

This year’s conference will take particular interest in presentations on Public History, the role of history in the present moment and institutions or spheres of History in question and under threat. Even if you feel that your presentation doesn’t fit the theme, then submit anyway!

The conference is open to postgraduate students in Oceania at Hons, MA and PhD level, including those within 24 months of completion of their last degree. There will be an option for distance presentations via Zoom.

There will be a modest registration fee of $35.
