Available online: Memoirs of mining geologist James Park

A manuscript, ‘The life and times of James Park: geologist, explorer, university dean’ was compiled by his widow, Jane Park, and has recently been prepared for publication by Simon Nathan as a Geoscience Society miscellaneous publication. This is available online as a free, downloadable PDF.

James Park (1857-1946) worked as a geologist under James Hector before moving to the Thames School of Mines. A leading figure in the New Zealand mining industry, he was in charge of the Otago School of Mines for over 30 years, and during his career published many articles and textbooks.
